LEWISBURG, Pa. - Senior midfielder Kasey Gallagher came up with her first goal of the season, but it was not enough for the Leopards to get past Bucknell as the team fell 5-1 Sunday afternoon at Graham Field.
A goal from Bucknell's Katie Leinen opened the scoring 17:17 into the game. After assisting on Leinen's score, Alex Kyzmir turned around and put the ball past Lafayette keeper Jill Lambert in the 30th minute to put the Bison up 2-0.
With 40 seconds remaining in the first half, Gallagher took a pass from junior forward Maggie DeFilippo and converted it into what would turn out to be the lone goal for the Leopards.
Lafayette had its chances in the second half, as the team out-shot Bucknell 12-5 after the break. Veteran goalkeeper Liz Jordan anchored a solid Bison defense, keeping the Leopards at bay.
Bucknell registered a trio of goals in the second half, further putting the game out reach for the Leopards.
Lafayette out-shot Bucknell, 22-15, overall and held an 11-5 advantage on penalty corners. DeFilippo led the Leopard charge with eight shots, while sophomore forward Laura Fabian took six.
The Leopards fell to 7-8 overall and 0-3 in the Patriot League. Bucknell moved to 6-9 and 2-1 in league play.
Next up for Lafayette will be a Wednesday night game at Lock Haven. A 7 p.m. start is scheduled.
