Box Score

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - The Lafayette field hockey team could not come up with the upset on Lock Haven's Senior Day celebration, as the Eagles handed the Leopards a 7-0 loss Wednesday night at Charlotte Smith Field.

After trailing just 2-0 after the opening half, the Leopards gave up five second-half goals, putting any hopes of a win out of reach. Lock Haven's Rebecca Steffen scored back-to-back second-half goals to highlight the stretch, while five different Eagles found the cage throughout the game.

Lafayette struggled to get things going against a Lock Haven team that has been on the brink of cracking the STX/NFHCA Top 20 poll all season, but has been unable to get over the hump.

The Leopards were able to keep the Eagles from jumping on the board over the opening 25 minutes, but Lock Haven's Blair Wynne netted the first goal of the night on a pass from Nikki Sweger with 9:53 left in the first half. It seemed that was all Lock Haven needed to get their offense started, while the defense aggressively buckled down on Lafayette for the remainder of the night.

Both teams traded goalkeepers in the 55th minute. Lafayette junior Jill Lambert recorded five saves in her 55:51 in the cage before head coach Ann Gold called upon sophomore Caitlin Burke for the fourth time this season. Burke turned away four shots in just over 14 minutes of work.

Senior forward Diane Shane, who has been an offensive spark off the bench as of late, registered the Leopards' lone shot on goal. On the defensive end, junior Chrissy Fallivene and freshman Jaclyn DiSanti were each credited with a defensive save in the effort.

The loss put Lafayette at 7-9 (0-3) on the season, while Lock Haven improved to 13-5.

The Leopards will get their chance to shine on Senior Day as the team will host Holy Cross on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m. The contest is the first of a pair of Patriot League matches at Rappolt Field to close out the regular season.
