HAMILTON, N.Y. (www.lafayette.edu) - Colgate scored eight straight goals in a span of just under 32:00 to pull away en route to a 14-6 Patriot League women's lacrosse win over Lafayette on Saturday.
Leading 3-2, the Raiders scored the final three goals of the first half and the first five of the second to take a commanding 11-2 lead with 18:24 remaining. Colgate (7-3 overall, 2-0 Patriot League) stretched the lead to as many as 11, 14-3, before Lafayette scored on a trio of free-position shots in the final 3:33.
Kelly Winning tallied four goals and an assist to pace the Colgate offense. Katie McVeigh and Jess Van der Meulen both added three goals in the win.
Samantha Ziegler scored three goals to lead Lafayette. She has netted at least three goals in each of Lafayette's three games this season and leads her teammates in points (11) and goals (10). Madalyn Booth, Diana Crai and Natalie Kuhnert accounted for the Leopards' other three goals.
Sue Bielamowicz made eight saves in goal for Colgate, while sophomore Jaclyn Kushner tallied 13 in the Leopards' cage.
Colgate held advantages of 45-20 in shots and 36-21 in ground balls.
Lafayette (0-5, 0-3) is back in action on Tuesday, visiting Monmouth at 3:30 p.m.
