WEST POINT, N.Y. (www.lafayette.edu) - Junior Tyler Jones' shot put throw of 51' 5 ½" qualified him for the Eastern IC4A Championships in early March, highlighting Lafayette's showing at Army's Carleton Crowell Invitational on Saturday. The Leopards posted four wins on the track and a pair in the field events in the team's first competition of 2006.
In the track events, sophomore Tom Blenk brought home the win in the 60-meter hurdles (8.55), while teammate Peter Reynolds took the 800-meter run in 1:57.71.
A pair of senior ladies rounded out Lafayette's wins, as Meghan Baker and Deborah Fink took first in the 800-meter (2:20.34) and 500-meter (1:18.73), respectively. Senior Daria Szkwarko captured first in the women's pole vault, as the veteran cleared 10' 4".
The meet was not scored, but Lafayette ended the day with 14 top three finishes overall. Aside from those in first, seniors Jeff Sejour, Jonathan Rowe, juniors Jones and Tobie Langsam, sophomores Alex Wechsler, Alison Crowley, Ashley Harbin, Kristen Kalinowski, and Emily Cholak all recorded top three finishes in their respective events.
The Leopards return to action at the New York University Invitational in the Big Apple next Friday.
