BOSTON, Mass. (www.lafayette.edu) - Junior Tyler Jones came up with a tenth place finish in the shot put, leading the Lafayette men's indoor track and field team at the Eastern IC4A Championships on Saturday and Sunday hosted by Boston University.
Jones' 52' 9 ½" hurl just missed the veteran's season-best of 52'11". He finished tenth among 30 Division I student-athletes competing in the event.
A pair of Lafayette jumpers also highlighted the field events and got their first taste of IC4A Championship action in junior Steve Ekema-Agbaw and rookie Shaun Adair. Ekema-Agbaw finished 21st in the triple jump (44' 6 ¾"), while Adair's 21'8" leap earned him 14th in the long jump event.
On the track, the 4x800m relay team of sophomores Brian Vail, Peter Reynolds and Alex Wechsler, joined by freshman Robert Blum, took 13th with a time of 7:39.57. The group bettered Patriot League arch rival Lehigh, which finished 19th, by nearly ten full seconds.
Individually, Wechsler ran the 1000m event in 2:29.25, which earned the sophomore 17th overall. This was Wechslers' second straight year competing in the 1000m at the IC4A level.
The women were also in action at the Eastern ECAC Championships this weekend. Complete results will be available at www.goleopards.com and www.ecac.org.
