FARMVILLE, Va. (www.lafayette.edu) - Lafayette used a four-goal flurry early in the second half to come back from a 7-2 deficit, but Davidson held off the Leopards' final push for a 9-6 win in non-league women's lacrosse on Sunday afternoon at Longwood.
The Wildcats (8-5) led 3-0 before Kaleigh Mountain put Lafayette on the board with an unassisted goal with 11:06 left in the first half. Madalyn Booth also scored in the first half for the Leopards, which trailed 6-2 at the end of the period after a goal by Kiften Stephens with 10 seconds left.
Sarah Walter scored 40 seconds into the second half for Davidson before Booth scored unassisted 32 seconds later to start Lafayette's comeback. Samantha Ziegler tallied off an assist from Kat Hueglin, Booth netted her third of the game on a pass from Kristin Ruminski, and Booth returned the favor to Ruminski to close the gap to 7-6 with 22:02 remaining.
Goals by Callie Seymour with 17:33 left and Becky Horton with 8:35 remaining were enough for the Wildcats to maintain their lead.
Davidson survived a Lafayette attack that owned a 41-21 advantage in shots, as Leslie Smith made 25 saves in goal, including 17 in the first half alone.
Stephanie Marcon made her third straight start in goal for Lafayette, while Jaclyn Kushner had eight saves in 52:02 of action.
The Leopards will begin a stretch of three home games in six days on Thursday, April 13 when they host the Bison of Howard at 7 p.m. at Rappolt Field.
