WEST POINT, N.Y. - Competing for the first time since the Leopard Invitational, a Lafayette track and field split squad traveled to Army to participate in the Crowell Open. Junior Ashley Harbin used her first event of the indoor season to record a personal best and NCAA qualifying mark of 62'8 3/4" in the weight throw, while senior Tyler Jones picked up wins in the men's weight throw and shot put.

The Leopard women started with a strong performance from defending Patriot League triple jump champion Emily Cholak, who placed fourth in the women's long jump (17'7 1/2") and then grabbed second place in the triple jump, leaping 37'4" in the finals. Joining Cholak in the top 10 of the long jump, was junior Kristen Kalinowski who finished in 10th place (14'9 3/4").

Tobie Langsam registered solid showing in the women's pole vault. The senior tallied a third place finish, soaring 9'6 ¾".

The Leopard throwing corps continued to pile up the individual achievements. Competing in her first event since participating in the NCAA Championships last season, junior Ashley Harbin threw a personal best and NCAA qualifying 62'8 3/4" mark in the weight throw. The Leopards managed to place five in the top seven of the standings, using a third place performance from junior Andrea Cerbie (47'11 1/4") and a fourth place finish from sophomore Sue Izevbigie (46'10"). Junior Pamela Glennon and sophomore Vicky Melroy rounded out a dominant Leopard event, finishing in sixth and seventh place with a throws of 43'4 ½" and 42' 1 ¼".

Glennon continued her success when she turned in a third place result of 40' 9 ¾" in the shot put. Also turning in their second top 10 performance of the day, Izevbigie (40'4 ¼") and Cerbie (37'10") notched a fourth place and eighth place results, respectively.

The Lafayette men also made a strong statement on the day. Out of the 14 competing teams, the Leopards tallied a fifth place team finish in the non-scoring meet. Leading the way was senior Tyler Jones, who produced victories in the weight throw and shot put. Jones, who was named Patriot League Male Field Athlete of the Week for his performance at the Leopard Invitational, threw for a 50' 8 ¾" mark in the shot put before recording a 53' 5 ¾" spot in the weight throw.

Joining Jones with impressive multiple results was freshman Connor McGee. McGee, who won the shot put in the 2006 Pennsylvania State championship as a senior at Bald Eagle Area High School, turned in sixth place showing in the shot put (44'4"), and followed that up with a fifth place performance (45'8") in the weight throw. Also registering a top 10 finish in the weight throw was sophomore Sean McAuley, whose throw of 42'11" was good enough for a 10th place showing.

The Lafayette jumping corps also got into the action. Senior Steve Ekema-Agbaw highlighted his day by finishing seventh (21'2 ¾") in the long jump, before recording an IC4A qualifying mark of 47'1" and second place in the triple jump.

Sophomore Adam Jones accompanied Ekema-Agbaw in the triple jump top 10 with a fourth place finish (43'11 ¾") of his own, while freshman Kyle Clayton notched a ninth place finish (20' 9 ¼") in the men's long jump.

The Leopards will look to ride the momentum on Friday when they head to the New York University Invitational in New York City, N.Y.
