BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Leave it to the Lafayette vs. Lehigh rivalry to heat things up on a cold, blustery afternoon in Bethlehem, Pa. on the campus of Moravian College. The Leopard women grabbed wins in 13 of the 19 scored events, coasting to a 116.50 to 86.50 victory over the Mountain Hawks. The Lehigh men eked out a dramatic 103-100 win.

The Lafayette women kicked off their victory with dominant performances from the throwing corps. First, second and third sweeps in the hammer throw, shot put and discus, got the Leopards rolling. Junior Ashley Harbin highlighted the events, throwing for an ECAC and NCAA regional qualifying mark of 183' 3" in the hammer. Harbin was seeing her first action since injuring her ankle on her first throw of the Leopard spring break trip to Coastal Carolina Univ.

Sophomore Sue Izevbigie launched a 43'4" spot in the shot put, while teammate Elizabeth Graybill used a 122'6" discus mark to claim victories. Reigning Patriot League Rookie of the Week Allison Tether continued her recent success by capturing the javelin victory, finding a spot of 112'10".

The Leopards used that momentum over to the jumps, where Lafayette completed three more one-two sweeps of Lehigh. Kristen Kalinowski grabbed the first of her two victories on the day when she cleared the 5'3" bar in the high jump. Later, she was victorious in the 100 meter hurdles, using a time of 15.67 to claim the title. Sister Leigh Kalinowski finished tied for second in the high jump, clearing the 5'1" bar.

Junior Emily Cholak and sophomore Jessica Buzzell continued the Leopard scoring, with each taking home a win. Buzzell was victorious in the long jump (18'6"), just missing the school record, with Cholak (18'1") finishing second. Later, Cholak claimed the triple jump title (37'2"), with Buzzell (35'7") coming in right behind. The sophomore also grabbed a second place result in the 100 meter hurdles behind Kalinowski.

Vanessa Youngs finished off her final Lafayette vs. Lehigh Dual career with three victories. The senior brought home wins in the 100 (12.76 seconds) and 200 meters (26.30 seconds). Youngs also staged a dramatic victory as she ran down Lehigh's Kimberly Simonsen down the straightaway to give the Leopards the 4x100 relay win. Kisha Thomas turned in a second place result in the 100 meters (13.07 seconds), with teammate Alison Crowley (27.56 seconds) turning in a third place finish in the 200 meters.

The Leopards also received a first through third sweep from Meredith Cohen (1:00.35), Lauren Phelps (1:00.62) and Meaghan Darling (1:01.10) in the 400 meter dash. Teammate Katie Schultes took home the women's 5000 meter run (17:49.31), while Meghan Baker finished second (2:14.74) in the 800 meters, just 0.42 seconds behind the winner.

Like the women, the Lafayette men controlled the throwing events. The men were led by three victories from senior Tyler Jones, including an IC4A qualifying mark (173'4") in the hammer throw. Jones also picked up wins in the shot put (51'11") and discus (147'7"). Freshman Seamas McGuire landed a 183'7" mark in the javelin to claim the win, while Sean McAuley grabbed two second place finishes behind Jones in the hammer (145'3") and discus (146'3"). Freshman Connor McGee completed the Leopard discus sweep, finishing third with a 140'6" mark.

Freshman Kyle Clayton turned in a solid all-around effort, clearing the 6'0" bar on his way to the high jump victory and finishing second in the long jump (22'11"). Teammate Steve Ekema-Agbaw dropped in a second place performance in the triple jump, recording a spot of 46'5".

Junior Alex Wechsler notched a 3:59.74 win in the 1500 meter run and second place finish (14:47.89) in the 5000 meters. Classmate Aaron Buchman (1:54.27) also tallied a dramatic win in the 800 meter run, edging out Lehigh's Garrett Zambrows by three hundredths of a second.

Freshman Sifiso Takirambudde (15.96 seconds) teamed with junior Daniel Sheehan (16.29 seconds) to finish one-two in the 110 meter hurdles. The Leopards also received a second place performance from Bradley Williams (50.14 seconds) in the 400 meter dash and two runner-up results from Adam Ballester in the 100 meter dash (11.37 seconds) and 200 meters dash (22.83 seconds). The meet came down to the final event, where Lehigh was victorious in the 4x400 meter relay to claim the win.

The Leopards return to action next Friday April 13, as they travel to the Bucknell Invitational in Lewisburg, Pa.
