BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Lafayette field hockey team earned its second-consecutive shutout over a league opponent on Saturday night, blanking Lehigh 2-0. With the win, the Leopards (10-5, 3-0) secured a berth to the Patriot League Tournament.
The shutout was the team's fourth of the season, a feat not matched since 2003. Lafayette nearly held its second-consecutive opponent to zero shots or corners for 70 minutes of play. Lehigh only forced one corner, which led to the subsequent shot, midway through the second half.
Senior Maggie Condon scored her seventh game-winner of the season late in the first half to give Lafayette a 1-0 lead. Fellow senior Jaclyn DiSanti assisted Condon on the goal at 31:26.
Sophomore defender Meghan Cicchi recorded her first goal of the season off an assist by Condon at 53:21. The Leopards outshot their archrival 14-1, with goalkeeper Kelsey Andersen notching a save on Lehigh's lone shot.
Next up, Lafayette will have a week to prepare for No. 20 American in a rematch of last year's Patriot League championship.
