EASTON, Pa. - The Lafayette field hockey team pulled out a 2-0 win against West Chester on Wednesday night. With the win, Lafayette has earned five shutout victories for the first time since 2001.
Senior midfielder Maggie Condon attempted a shot after the Leopards forced a corner midway through the first half, but the shot was stopped in traffic in front of the goal. Luckily, sophomore Meghan Cicchi was there to send the ball to forward Lindsay Majno, who scored her fifth goal of the season at 15:15.
The Leopards' defense was hard at work, too. Junior Natalie Bowden made a defensive save on West Chester's leading scorer Brittany Cislak's only shot of the game with nearly 17 minutes remaining in the second half.
The Leopards struck again with less than eight minutes remaining in the game. Junior forward Kelly Hilovsky scored her first goal since Sept. 26 for her seventh score of the season.
Lafayette (11-6) will play its last regular season game on Saturday in a Patriot League matchup against Colgate at noon at Rappolt Field. With a win, the Leopards could lock up the No. 2 seed in the Patriot League Tournament.
"At this point, we're in the playoffs," head coach Andrew Griffiths said. "We just have to have our best performance every time we go out there. Otherwise, the season's going to end for us. Simple as that."
