Lafayette field hockey falls to American in the Patriot League Tournament Final 2-0 on Saturday afternoon. The Leopards defeated the now seven-time champs earlier this season, but the Eagles were able to exact revenge with a 2-0 win Saturday in the Patriot League Tournament title game at William I. Jacobs Recreational Complex.
American's Christine Fingerhuth and Melissa Casale provided the only offense in the game, scoring one goal in each half. Junior goalkeeper, and Goalkeeper of the Year, Kelsey Andersen, had five saves on the day.
American (11-8) limited Lafayette (14-6) to four shots, while the Eagles' offense fired off 14. The Eagles also held the edge in penalty corners 7-3. Meghan Cicchi, Emily Valeo, Bridget Hilbig and Alison Schoch fired off the four shots for the Leopards.
Senior Caitlin Titus, sophomore Carolyn Cabrey and freshman Emily Valeo earned the All-Tournament Team.
Freshman Deanna DiCroce had a stellar season leading the team in shots (62), goals (12), points (26) and game-winning goals (6). She also received player of the week honors five different times for Rookie of the Week and Offensive Player of the Week. Cicchi earned three weekly honors this past year for Defensive Player of the Week, along with Andersen who brought three honors for Goalkeeper of the Week.
Playing their final colligate game were eight outstanding seniors; Natalie Bowden, Meghan Cloonan, Bridget Hilbig, Kelly Hilovsky, Lindsay Majno, Amanda Saber, Alison Schoch and Caitlin Titus.
