Leopards Fall In Home Opener

Sept. 11, 2009

Box Score

Easton, Pa. - The Lafayette field hockey team dropped its first game after taking on Temple on Friday night.

With the first half evenly played, Temple took seven shots at the goal while Lafayette took six. Both goal keepers were on point with the Owls having four saves and the Leopards having two.

Twelve minutes into the second half, Temple's Becca Keener found midfielder Charise Young on a left side and shot to the goal bring Temple up 1-0. Lafayette's defense stepped it up more and did not allow any more goals by Temple.

The Lafayette offense took control of the ball for most of the second half with three shots by Bridget Hilbig, Kelly Hilovsky, and Meghan Cicchi. Hilovsky and Cicchi's shots were both stopped by Owl goalkeeper Sarah Dalrymple.

With both teams having four penalty corners, the Leopards were not able to capitalize on them.

"We are disappointed with this loss. The defense was great only allowing a few shots by Temple," Coach Andrew Griffiths said after the game. "There was a great amount of cut throat attack, but we need to improve on the circle. When we are inside the circle we need to have a killer instinct and go for the goal. We had many opportunities that were not converted into chances that we will work on."

Lafayette will take on the Georgetown Hoyas Sunday at noon at Rappolt Field.
