NEW YORK, N.Y. - The Lafayette men's and women's track and field teams competed in their first event of the New Year on Saturday at the NYRR College meet at the Armory in New York. Defending League 60m champ Kyle Clayton had two indoor lifetime bests. He placed first in the 200m with a time of 22.16 and placed fifth in the long jump at 22'9".
Following Clayton in the 200m, senior Adam Ballester was third at 22.42 and sophomore Nick DeRosa was fifth at 22.56.
Clayton, Ballester, DeRosa were joined by senior Sean Casey on the 4 x 400m team that finished fourth with a time of 3:22.45.
Sophomore Nick Henderson tied his career best in the pole vault (14' 3 ¼") while finishing fourth in the meet. Classmate Michael Thompson finished close behind in sixth at 13'9".
Junior tri-captain Ryan Stasiowski finished fourth in the 3000m run with a personal best of 8:38.09.
The women had some stiff competition with the University of Connecticut, one of the top teams in the east.
The women's 4 x 400m relay of Kelly Clyde, Adedayo Adu, Megan Matusky, and Kyara Gray already ran faster than all of last season with a time of 4:02.78. The group beat League rival Army by four seconds.
Additionally, Clyde ran a personal best in the 60m (8.07) while Matusky (59.94) & Adu (1:00.90) ran indoor bests in the 400m.
Junior Kerriann Borke placed sixth in the triple jump at 35'2".
The track and field team returns to the Armory on Jan. 22 when they compete in the Great Dane Classic.
