EASTON, Pa. - Lafayette scored three goals in the first half of the game and added another two to pick up a 5-0 win against Colgate in the first Patriot League contest at Rappolt Field. Senior Meghan Cicchi scored two goals for the Leopards off penalty corners.
Lafayette (4-5, 1-0) got on the board early off a penalty corner that Deanna DiCroce sent in to Emily Valeo who fed it to Meghan Cicchi who scored her third goal of the season.
Seven minutes later the senior co-captain Cara Lyons scored off a second chance rebound. At the 29 minute mark, sophomore Jaclyn White scored off a penalty corner, Cicchi assisted in the goal. The Leopards went into the half leading 3-0.
Colgate (3-8, 0-1) came out stronger in the second half giving the Leopards a harder time getting to the ball. In the 42nd minute White made a fast break-away down the right side of the field and sent the ball to Deanna DiCroce in front of the cage and she scored from a yard out.
Lafayette's final goal came once again off a penalty corner, Cicchi scoring with DiCroce and Valeo picking up the assists.
The Leopards dominated in shots taking 24 to the Raiders three, while Colgate's Kristen Lalli made three saves and Caitlin Zolet made nine. Sophomore Mara Kish saw the most playing time in her career, playing for 14 minutes and making a save.
"I am very pleased with today's outcome," said head coach Andrew Griffiths. "We had great corner execution and making plays on our second chances. We came out strong in the first half and sealed the win early."
Lafayette makes a quick turn-around and travels to Rutgers tomorrow for a 2 p.m. game.
