BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Taking 38 shots and 17 penalty corners, Lafayette defeated historic rival Lehigh 5-0 on Saturday afternoon in Bethlehem, Pa. Senior Meghan Cicchi and sophomore Deanna DiCroce scored two goals each in the win.
It did not take long for the Leopards to score as senior defends Cicchi scored the first goal of the game off a penalty corner that was inserted by DiCroce and stopped by Emily Valeo at the two minute mark.
In the 10th minute of the game DiCroce added a second goal as she came in all alone at the end line and came out in front and put the ball in the back of the cage. Three minutes later, sophomore Jaclyn White scrambled in front of the goal added a third goal to give the Leopards a 3-0 lead going into the half.
The Leopards added two more goals late in the second half, as Cicchi scored on a second penalty corner. DiCroce scored the final goal of the game in the 66th minute as she went against two defenders and scored the long goal to seal the 5-0 win against Lehigh.
Lafayette's defense gave all they could and did not allow Lehigh to take a single shot in the 70 minutes while the Leopards took 38 on Lehigh's Jessica Miller as she made 22 saves. Lafayette also took 17 penalty corners while Lehigh took none.
Lafayette returns home on Sunday to host its final non-league game against Georgetown at 1 p.m. Prior to the game, Lafayette will recognize the seniors on both teams for their time and dedication to their schools.
