Box Score
DALLAS, Texas - The Leopards were unable to pick up a win, falling 12-5 in the series opener in Dallas despite an 11-hit effort by the team.
A.J. Miller had a three-hit day and was one of nine Lafayette players with at least one hit on the night. Starter Zach Fritz went five innings and gave up eight runs on nine hits and four walks and suffered his third loss of the spring.
The scoring started early for the Leopards (0-8) with a two-run first inning. Brad Weiss singled home the first run and Alex Bechta knocked another RBI single that scored Adam McMahon for a 2-0 score.
The Patriots (11-7) countered with a run on Travis Meiners's two-out double but Lafayette tacked on another two runs the very next inning. A.J. Miller led off with a single and eventually scored on a two-run single off the bat of Matt Hall that also plated Brian Davila, who had reached on a single, as well.
It remained 4-1 until the bottom of the third when Dallas Baptist tagged Fritz for four runs, with the big blow coming on Duncan McAlpine's two-out, three-run homer.
A wild pitch in both the fifth and sixth innings led to two more Patriots runs and a sixth-inning RBI single from Jason Krizan upped their lead to four (8-4).
A Patriots error in the seventh allowed the Leopards to pick up their fifth run of the game, but Dallas Baptist put the game out of reach with four more runs in the seventh off reliever John Gentile. Three doubles and a single led to the four runs, making it 12-5.
Due to possible inclement weather on Saturday, Lafayette and Dallas Baptist will now play a doubleheader on Friday beginning at 4 p.m.
