Box Score

EASTON, Pa. - The Lafayette offense could muster little support for its pitchers as the Leopards fell 6-1 at St. Joseph's in the second round of the Liberty Bell classic.

The Leopards (5-17) briefly held a third-inning lead, but the Hawks (9-13) erased that lead in the bottom half of their inning and Lafayette never again held an advantage.

Lafayette collected only four hits on the day with two from Matt Fenster, the only player with a multi-hit outing. Starter Sean McGrath lasted five innings but gave up five runs on seven hits and walked four batters.

The Leopards took a 1-0, third-inning lead when Brian Davila was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning. He advanced to second on an out, stole third and scored on a throwing error.

St. Joseph's got that run back plus one more in its half of the third on a Dewey Oriente triple that plated two. The Hawks tacked on three more in the fifth thanks to four hits and a McGrath wild pitch. They scored the game's final run in the seventh that was credited to reliever Derek Gussaroff.

Lafayette, in the midst of a 16-game road trip, travels to Monmouth on Wednesday for a 3:30 p.m. game.
