HAMDEN, Conn. - Sophomore Maria Machalick scored her second goal of the season 27 seconds into the game but it was not enough as Quinnipiac scored three goals in the second half to beat the Leopards 3-1 in Hamden, Conn.
The sophomore midfielder took a shot from the top of the circle that found the back of the cage after heading through traffic in front of goalkeeper Nicole Lewis. Lafayette (2-5) headed into halftime with a 1-0 lead.
Quinnipiac's Kimberley Cunniff scored two goals in the second half, scoring her first goal at the 45:41 mark off a penalty corner. Lauren Zimniski stopped the ball and sent it to her left where Cunniff blasted a shot past Kelsey Andersen to tie the game. Her second goal came at the 57th minute, also off a corner. The Bobcats' final goal came in the 68th minute to seal the win.
Lafayette outshot Quinnipiac 10-6, while Lewis made five saves and Andersen made one. The Leopards come home to host Ivy League foe Penn on Wednesday at Rappolt Field, game set for 7 p.m.
