EASTON, Pa. - The Lafayette cross country team ran in the 2011 Paul Short Run hosted by Lehigh on Friday. Both teams competed in the Brown Race, with the men's team finishing the 8k race in 22nd out of 46 teams and the women's team finishing the 6k race in 24th out of 44 teams.
As a team, the Lafayette men recorded an average time of 27:13, scoring 631 points in the event. William Volkmann finished in 17th overall with his time of 26:08 to lead the Leopards. Freshman Zach Lizmi earned a 59th place finish, crossing the line at 26:40. Josh Sadlock registered a 27:32 mark in 163rd place. Clocking in at 27:45 was sophomore Derrick Hargwood, who earned a 185th place finish. Rounding out the seven Lafayette runners were Dayne Mosconi (27:59), Sam Brinton (28:11) and Chris Parker (29:57).
On the women's side, Lafayette earned 643 points and averaged 24:09 in the event. Senior Lauren Kelly paced the Leopards with her 23:35 finish, good for 74th overall. Rose Wiley was right behind Kelly in 79th place, recording a time of 23:41. In 125th was Erika Stasakova, crossing the line in 24:08. Freshman Simran Bains posted a time of 24:17 and came in 148th overall. Erin Mee (25:02), Elizabeth Troisi (25:17) and Grace Watters (27:11) all earned points for Lafayette in the race.
Iona College won both Brown Races, as its men's squad had an average time of 26:10 and its women's team averaged 22:32. Colgate's Christopher Johnson won the individual men's race, posting a time of 25:19 and Rowan's Vanessa Wright was the first women's runner to finish, running the 6k in 21:40.
Lafayette's next meet is the Leopard Invitational in Easton, Pa. and is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. on Oct. 15.
