EASTON, Pa. - With its 7-0 win over Holy Cross on Saturday afternoon, the Lafayette field hockey team clinched a share of the Patriot League championship and earned home-field advantage for the Patriot League tournament.

Sophomore Brittany Blass, senior Maria Machalick and classmate Deanna DiCroce led a stellar day for the Leopards' offensive unit as they each netted two scores.

The Leopards continued their stingy play defensively, not allowing a shot from the Crusaders all afternoon and outshooting them, 26-0.

"I am thrilled for our team," head coach Andrew Griffiths said. "We performed well today with a true team performance and contributions from many different players. It is an accomplishment to secure the regular season championship and the right to host the playoffs with one game still to play."

The Leopards showed their determination early, as a penalty corner in the sixth minute led to a marker from Blass and put Lafayette on the board first, 1-0.

Just 10 minutes later, the Leopards' corner contingent produced again as Blass's initital shot was saved by Holy Cross' Kat Matchett, but senior Maria Machalick poked in the rebound to extend the lead to 2-0.

With 10 minutes remaining in the half, the corner unit connected on another attempt as Blass notched her second goal of the game, collecting the rebound off the initial shot from sophomore Jenna Seybert, to give Lafayette the 3-0 lead.

Just before the half, Seybert gave Lafayette's corner unit its fourth goal of the game as she slotted a ball into the back of the net, extending the lead to 4-0.

Five minutes into the second half, Machalick deflected a corner shot from Blass past Matchett for her second mark of the afternoon, padding the lead to 5-0.

Lafayette senior co-captain Deanna DiCroce added two insurance markers late in the second to put the final score at 7-0.

The Maroon and White take on archrival Lehigh on Saturday in Bethlehem, Pa. at 11 a.m. and host the Patriot League tournament starting Nov. 2.
