EASTON, Pa. - Lafayette evened its record at 2-2 with a 3-1 win over Quinnipiac on a brisk Friday night at Rappolt Field.
Senior Haley Keenan opened the scoring for the Leopards in the 9th minute on a pass from sophomore Kirby Szalkowski. Szalkowski collected the rebound after a shot from junior Brittany Blass was saved by the Bobcats' goalkeeper and fed it to teammate Keenan who put it in the back of the cage for the 1-0 lead.
In the 36th minute, the referees awarded a penalty stroke to the Leopards after senior Kelsey Gula was knocked down by a Quinnipiac defender inside the striking circle. Blass converted the stroke to give the Maroon and White a 2-0 advantage.
The Bobcats (1-4) answered 10 minutes later on a goal by Kacie McCreesh off a feed from classmate Jessica Rusin.
Lafayette put the game away in the 62nd minute on a goal by sophomore Hannah Millen. Millen knocked in the rebound after a shot from Blass was stopped.
The Leopards outshot the Bobcats 14-10 while Quinnipiac held the advantage in penalty corners, 9-6.
Junior goalkeeper Jessica Deutsch saved five shots in the win while the Bobcats' goalkeeper, Megan Conaboy, stopped four in the losing effort.
Lafayette returns to action his Sunday in a road contest against UConn, starting at noon.
