Easton, Pa. – Lafayette field hockey celebrated senior day in style on Saturday afternoon with a 5-1 win over archival Lehigh at Rappolt Field. Senior Jenna Seybert tallied a pair of goals and an assist, while classmate Kelsey Mead chipped in a goal and assist.

The Leopards improved to 6-9 overall and 2-4 in Patriot League play, while Lehigh dropped to 4-12 and 1-4 in the League. Senior Jessica Deutsch earned the win making a pair of saves to move to 5-4 this season. Lehigh’s Julia Ward made nine saves in the loss.

"Overall I thought this was really a good team performance for us," coach Jennifer Stone said. "I thought we dominated in a lot of areas in that we were able to open up and create a lot of attacking areas. We got some key performances especially from some of our seniors, Jenna and Kelsey in particular. The big thing today was that we were able to find the back of the cage. When you create opportunities and take advantage of them, the result speaks for itself."

The Mountain Hawks took an early 1-0 lead just 1:12 into the game as Gabby Tofig finished off a pass from Amanda Granger in front of the cage. The Leopards answered ten minutes later as Mead fired a shot from the top of the arc that found the back of the net to knot the score at one.

In the 19^th minute Lehigh threatened again with a penalty corner, but Deutsch made the save on the shot. Brittany Blass had a chance to give the Leopards a 2-1 lead in the 33^rd minute, but Lehigh’s Ward was able to turn her away.

With less than two minutes to play in the opening half, Lafayette took its first lead of the game. Mead sent her penalty corner to the top of the circle where Kirby Szalkowski stopped it for Seybert to fire home.

The Leopards came flying out in the second half earning a pair of penalty corners in the first two minutes. On the second corner, Seybert sent a shot towards goal that Amanda Magadan deflected into the open net.

Lafayette made it a three-goal lead in the 44^th minute on Seybert’s second tally. She redirected a shot from Hannah Millen past Ward to push the gap to 4-1. The Leopards maintained pressure over the next ten minutes before Meg Lillis netted her first career goal in the 57^th minute. The freshman was all alone in front of goal and slotted it past the Lehigh keeper.

The Maroon and White held the advantage in shots, 18-7, shots on goal, 14-3, and penalty corners, 8-4. The Leopards are back in action tomorrow at No. 16 Temple.
