Philadelphia - The Lafayette field hockey team fell on the road to No. 16 Temple, 4-0, in a non-league contest on Sunday afternoon. Katelyn Arnold made four saves in the game for the Maroon and White.
The Leopards moved to 6-10 overall, while the Owls improved to 13-5. Temple was led by Erin Van Horn's two goals and Amber Youtz's goal and three assists.
Lafayette had a pair of penalty corners at the 23 minute mark. On the first corner, Ellen Colbourne's shot was turned away by Temple goalie, Lizzy Millen. The second corner was stopped for Jenna Seybert, but the seniors attempt was cleared off the line by Temple. Temple scored the first goal of the game with 33 seconds to play in the first half. Temple's Sarah Deck found Amber Youtz on the left side and her shot found the back of the cage.
The Leopards threatened again early in the second half. Seybert fired another shot on frame from a penalty corner that was once again stopped by the defense. Lafayette continued to pressure, earning a second corner. Hannah Millen's shot was stopped by the Temple goalie, and Seybert's attempt on the rebound was also turned away.
Temple added to its lead with two quick strikes in the 54th and 57th minute. Rachel Mueller tallied from the center of the circle, followed by Erin Van Horn's tally. Five minutes later the Owls found the back of the cage again, as Van Horn netted her second goal of the afternoon, to give Temple a 4-0 win.
