EASTON, Pa. - The Lafayette field hockey team ended their season on Friday evening at Rappolt Field with a 4-1 loss to Delaware.

The Leopards opened the scoring just five minutes into the contest when senior Kelsey Mead connected with sophomore Amanda Magadan for the early lead. Magadan, working down the right side, sent a long shot into the box and Mead deflected the ball up over the right pad of Delaware goalkeeper Emmeline Oltmans to put Lafayette in front, 1-0.

The Blue Hens answered less than 14 minutes later as Delaware's Taylor Lister found Esmee Peet at the top of the circle in the Lafayette defensive end. Peet made a move to the right and sent a hard, skidding shot to the left of senior goalkeeper Jessica Deutsch to knot the game at one.

The Hens' Maggie Delp finished a feed from Michaela Patzner just before the half to make it 2-1 at the break, and a pair of second-half goals from Delaware's Patzner and Meghan Winesett pushed the final score to 4-1.

Senior Jenna Seybert added to her league-leading defensive save total with four against the Hens, moving her tally to eight on the year overall. Deutsch was solid in the cage as well, making six saves in her final game for the Maroon and White.

Delaware led the way in shots, 18-3, and penalty corners, 10-0. Mead led the Leopards' offense with two shots, both on goal, while junior Kendall Weedling added the third shot for Lafayette.

With the loss, the Leopards finish up the 2014 campaign with an overall record of 6-11 and went 2-4 in Patriot League play. Seniors Seybert, Mead, Deutsch, Brittany Blass and Brianna Barry played their final games in the Maroon and White.
