ARLINGTON, Va. - Connor Ortolf tossed 6.2 solid innings and combined with Alex Farina to hold George Washington to two runs as Lafayette came away with a 4-2 victory in game one of a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at Barcroft Park. Parker Hills and Brett Thompson each registered multi-hit games for Lafayette offensively.

Each team managed only one hit through the game's first three innings as Ortolf stranded runners in each of the first three frames. George Washington's starter Aaron Weisberg worked around a two-out free pass to Andrew Santomauro in the first and faced the minimum in the next two innings.

Tyler Hudson opened the top of the fourth by reaching on a hit-by-pitch, Santomauro delivered a bunt single and Hills walked to load the bases with one away. With the bases loaded, freshman Alex Woinski sent a fly ball to left field that was deep enough to score Santomauro from third and Lafayette led 1-0.

The Colonials wasted no time in tying the game in the fourth inning. Two of the first three batters reached safely on a walk and infield single, prior to Bobby Campbell's one-out RBI single through the left side that brought home Owen Beightol. Matthieu Robert came to the plate next and roped a single to right center to put George Washington ahead 2-1. With runners on second and third with one out, Ortolf induced a pair of groundouts to escape any further damage.

Trailing 2-1 going into the fifth, Thompson's one-out infield single got things going for the second straight inning. Thompson swiped second base, Andrew Landolfi was hit by a pitch and Tyler Hudson walked to pack the sacks for Santomauro. A fielder's choice did the job and Lafayette tied the score at 2-2.

Ortolf twirled scoreless fifth and sixth innings and teamed up with Farina in the seventh to keep the score knotted at 2-2 going into the eighth inning.

In the eighth, Hills singled to begin the frame. After advancing to second on a sac bunt and then to third on a passed ball, Andrew Nickles doubled to left to pick up the go-ahead RBI. Following a pop out, Thompson tripled in Nickles to pick up the insurance run.

Farina stranded a two-out single in the bottom of the eighth and closed out the ninth with a 8-3 double play before Parkmond of George Washington grounded out to the catcher to end the game.

Game two of the series and the doubleheader features Lafayette right-handed pitcher Mitch Leeds against GW's righty Jacob Williams.
