WEST POINT, N.Y. - Army's Patrick Mescher launched a two-run homer in the seventh inning that broke a 2-2 tie and the Black Knights came away with a 4-2 win and a sweep of Saturday's doubleheader at Johnson Stadium.

After taking game one by a 2-1 final on the strength of two solo home runs, Army (18-19, 3-2 Patriot) took the lead in game two on Alex Jensen's blast with the bases clear. The dinger was Jensen's second of the day after hitting the game-winner in the fourth inning of the series opener.

Lafayette (7-13, 0-3 Patriot) tied the score in the top of the fourth when Tim Lazor started the inning with a double. An Alex Woinski single put runners on the corners for Parker Hills, who delivered a sacrifice fly that leveled the score at 1-1. Right-handed pitcher Mitch Leeds shut down Army with a 1-2-3 inning in the home half of the fourth.

Both Leeds and Army starter Alex Robinett worked around base hits in the fifth to hold the 1-1 tie. Lafayette threatened when Woinski laced a two-out double in the sixth, but Robinett fanned Hills to strand the Leopards' designated hitter at second base.

Solo shots by Army's Mark McCants and Lafayette's Andrew Landolfi pushed the score to 2-2 in each team's next trip to the plate, before Mescher's two-run round tripper put the Black Knights on top for good. Mescher's home run off Leeds came with one out and Brock Davidson on first base after he reached on an error.

Leeds was charged with the loss (0-3) after giving up four runs, three earned, on six hits in 6 2/3 innings. The sophomore punched out six and didn't walk a batter in the defeat.

Army's Julian Larimer struck out two and kept Army's lead at two runs after hitting Woinski with a pitch in the eighth. Johnny Griffith twirled a perfect ninth inning to nail down the save as Robinett collected the victory. Robinett scattered seven hits over seven innings and allowed two runs, while striking out 10 and walking two others.

Lafayette and Army resume the series on Sunday with a doubleheader at Johnson Stadium beginning at 1 p.m.

Game Notes:

Andrew Santomauro's double in the seventh inning pushed his hitting streak to eight games.

Cory Spera allowed one hit in 1 1/3 innings in relief of Leeds.
