State College, Pa. - Lafayette field hockey fell at No. 6 Penn State on Sunday afternoon. Kelsey Mead tallied the lone goal for the Leopards who moved to 4-2 this season.
Lafayette took an early 1-0 lead six minutes into the game off of the stick of Kelsey Mead. Mead took a penalty corner for the Leopards and finished off Ami Turner's rebound for her third goal of the season.
Penn State tied the score at one with 15:30 into the first period. Jessica Deutsch made the initial save on the penalty corner, but the Nittany Lions' Emilee Ehret collected the rebound and put it in the cage. A minute later Penn State took the lead, 2-1, off another rebound.
At the 21 minute mark, the Nittany Lions pushed their lead to two, 3-1, as Jenna Chrismer scored her second goal of the game on a feed from Laura Gebhart. Penn State tacked on two more goals in the second half to take down the Leopards, 5-1.
Deutsch and sophomore Katelyn Arnold split time in goal for the Leopards. Deutsch made three saves in the first half, while Arnold made seven saves in the second period. Jenna Seybert had three defensive saves, while Hannah Millen also picked up a defensive save for Lafayette.
The Leopards open Patriot League play at home on Saturday against Boston University. They will host reigning national champions Connecticut in a non-league contest on Sunday.
