Easton, Pa. - Lafayette field hockey fell to visiting Penn, 4-2, at Rappolt Field on Wednesday night. Katelyn Arnold made seven saves, while Katie Birle and Amanda Magadan tallied goals for the Leopards.
Penn had the first chance of the game in the 11th minute, but Arnold stood tall in front of the cage to keep the game scoreless. Lafayette's Birle deflected a shot from Brittany Blass past the Penn goalie in the 16th minute to open the scoring.
Eight minutes later, the Quakers took advantage of a penalty corner. Arnold made the initial save, but Penn's Emily Corcoran was there to put the rebound into the goal. In the final seconds of the opening half the Leopards used a penalty corner to take the lead. Jenna Seybert's initial shot was stopped, but Magadan was there to fire the rebound into the cage and give Lafayette a 2-1 advantage at the half.
With ten minutes gone in the second half, the Quakers knotted the game at two on a goal off the stick of Elizabeth Hitti. In the 52nd minute, Penn pushed ahead, 3-2, as Corcoran finished a rebound in front of the net. With less than three minutes to play, Elizabeth Hitti found Alexa Hoover in front of the cage to give the Quakers an insurance goal.
Lafayette returns to Patriot League play on Saturday at Colgate.
