PHILADELPHIA - The 2016 season came to a close for the Lafayette field hockey team after dropping a non-conference road game to Temple 3-1 on Sunday afternoon.

The Leopards (8-10) put six of their 11 total shots on goal and had seven corners, but were only able to muster one score, while the Owls (7-11) tallied three goals on nine shots on the Lafayette cage.

It took 14 minutes for anyone to get a shot off, but the Owls struck first when Paige Gross found the back of the cage after receiving the ball from Becky Gerhart.

Temple looked to add to its lead in the 28th minute and after a Maiyah Brown shot was saved by Katelyn Arnold, Katie Foran got the rebound and put it into the cage to give the Owls the two-point advantage.

In the closing seconds of the opening stanza, Amanda Magadan placed a shot on goal, but it was saved by the Temple goalkeeper, Maddie Lilliock.

Within the first two minutes of the second half, the Leopards worked their way into the Temple circle and capitalized once Ellen Colbourne dished the ball over the Kristen Taylor for her first goal of the year.

The Leopards continued to put pressure on the Owls' cage and Magadan and Rosie Shanks each took aim and fired, but both shots were denied by Lilliock.

Arnold pieced together a strong second half, sending away five Temple shots. However, in the 57th minute, the ball bounced back into the circle on one her denials and Rachael Mueller scored to give Temple a 3-1 lead and put the game away.
