ALBANY, N.Y. - Lafayette field hockey senior goalkeeper Katelyn Arnold recorded a season-high 11 saves, but it was not enough as No. 19 Albany came away with a 4-0 victory over the Leopards on Sunday afternoon.

Albany (9-4) was the third ranked opponent that Lafayette (7-5) faced this year.

The Great Danes had the first scoring opportunity come in the fourth minute of action. After the ball was inserted into the circle on a penalty corner, Paula Heuser took a shot and it was blocked, but she got it back and fired again only to have it denied by Arnold.

In the 17th minute, the Great Danes were awarded another penalty corner and this time they capitalized on the scoring chance. Viola von der Muhlen sent the ball to Emily Fraser in the middle of the circle. Once Fraser got it, she faked a pass to her left, spun, and dished it over to Anna Bottino on her right, who then scored on a shot just to the right of Arnold.

The Leopards' lone shot on goal in the half came in the 19th minute once Rosie Shanks rifled a ball towards the Albany cage. However, Maxi Primus, the Great Danes' goalkeeper, came up with the save.

With two minutes remaining in the opening stanza, the Great Danes earned another penalty corner. The ball was played by Hueser over to Bottino, who fed it right back to Hueser for the score to put Albany up 2-0.

The Great Danes added one final score in the half after running the same set play off a penalty corner that resulted in Bottino finding Hueser for her second goal of the afternoon.

Albany continued to apply a heavy dose of pressure on the offensive end and within the first eight minutes of the second half, three shots were sent towards Arnold, but the senior sent them all away. In total, the Great Danes placed 12 of their 17 second half shots on goal, and Arnold made 10 saves.

However, in the 43rd minute, Jaclyn Hibbs had the ball on the right side for Albany and she fired it into the middle of the circle, where it was tipped in by Megan Ma.

Lafayette had a chance to get on the board after being rewarded a penalty corner with just seconds remaining in the game, but a pair of Leopards' shots were saved by the newly inserted Albany goalkeeper, Melissa Nealon.

The Leopards will return to College Hill for conference action as they play host to American on Saturday at noon.
