Van der Geest Tabbed PL Rookie of the Week

Nov. 1, 2016

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. -- Freshman Lisa van der Geest was tabbed as the Patriot League Rookie of the Week after scoring a goal and tallying an assist for the Lafayette field hockey team this past week.

This is the freshman's second conference weekly award as she was named Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week in late September.

The Leopards closed out conference play this past Friday with an exciting 2-1 victory over Patriot League rival Lehigh. Lafayette trailed by a single goal in the second half, but the Maroon and White tied it up after van der Geest dished the ball to Amanda Magadan for the score.

The Netherlands native was not done for the night as she went on to cage the game-winning score in the 65th minute after receiving the ball from Meg Lillis at the top of the circle.

It was a stellar rookie campaign for the freshman as she capped off her first year with a team-high five assists to go along with three goals and 11 points.
