EASTON, Pa. - Five Lafayette student-athletes were included on Diverse: Issues of Higher Education magazine's 2016 list of Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholars.

Drew Davis and Erica Swinton from women's track & field, Xavier Laracuente from men's swimming & diving, Amanda Magadan from field hockey and Ally Simels from women's tennis were all recognized for their academic accomplishments.

The Sports Scholar Awards were established in 1992 to recognize undergraduate students from diverse backgrounds who exemplify the standards set by tennis great Arthur Ashe Jr. In addition to their athletic ability, students must exhibit academic excellence as well as community activism.

To be included, students have to compete in an intercollegiate sport; maintain a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.20; and be active on their campuses or in their communities. The NCAA Office of Inclusion has partnered with Diverse to support this standout class of scholar-athletes. Approximately 1,000 male and female students from across the country were nominated.
