Leopards Compete in Dual Meet at Lehigh

BETHLEHEM, Pa. –
The Lafayette men's and women's track & field teams took part in the 44th annual dual meet against Lehigh and claimed victories in nine events on Saturday afternoon at Rauch Fieldhouse.

In a day filled with several noteworthy performances, three Leopards hit a personal record in the weight throw and took the top three spots. Dave McGriff placed first with his throw of 17.36m, which qualified him for the IC4A Championships. He was followed by Patrick Corcoran (16.90m) and Dan Sweitzer (13.34m). The throwers continued their day by nabbing the second and third spots in the shot put after McGriff hit his distance of 15.34m and Corcoran's throw reached 14.82m.

Freshman Dan Hogan performed well on the track, grabbing a pair of first-place finishes in the 200m and 400m. His 23:00 time in the 200m, was just over three seconds quicker than classmate Justin Johnson, who placed second in the event.

In the 500m, Tom Strand took second with his time of 1:08.01 and Tyler Pressl also earned a second-place finish, but in the 1000m at a time of 2:34.89. The men earned another pair of top finishes in the 4x400 relay and in the long jump. Steven Young jumped a distance of 6.87m in the long jump, which was just .02m more than the second-place finisher, Ryan Givens of Lehigh.

For the women, it was Drew Davis showcasing her wheels by taking first in both the 200m and 400m. In the 400m, she was the lone runner to finish with a time under a minute as she crossed at 58.41. Also placing first on the day was Dina Naphor in the 60m with her time of 8:02 and Alexa Kwapinski in the 1000m at 3:01.08.

In the 800m, Kelly Reager's time of 2:17.35 was good for second, while Emily Moore added a second-place finish of her own in the 3000m after crossing at 10:27.60, over six seconds better than the third runner to finish.

The jumpers were highlighted by Mara Blanchard's (3.49m) second-place finish in the pole vault.

The Leopards will return to the Rauch Fieldhouse next Saturday, Jan. 28, to compete in the Covert Classic that is set to begin at 10 a.m.
