BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Lafayette track & field team picked up eight top-five finishes on Saturday afternoon at the John Covert Classic in Rauch Fieldhouse.

The field events got started with a seventh-place finish by Brendan Doyle in the men's high jump after he hit his mark of 1.85m (6'0.75"). Lafayette had a strong showing in the pole vault on both the men's and women's side. For the men, it was Michael Thorne claiming the top spot out of 11 jumpers at 4.70m (15'5"). On the women's side, Mara Blanchard tied for second out of 12 jumpers at 3.35m (10'11.75").

When it came time for the throwers to take the stage, the Leopards did not disappoint and once again it was Patrick Corcoran and Dave McGriff leading the charge for the Maroon and White. Out of 29 throwers in the shot put, McGriff placed fourth at 15.32m (50'3.25"), while Corcoran finished one spot behind at 14.70m (48'2.75").

Following their stellar performances in the shot put, Corcoran and McGriff returned for the weight throw, where they dominated the competition, taking the top two spots. Corcoran had the best throw of the day out of the 21 other throwers with his distance of 16.64m (54'7.25"). Meanwhile, McGriff finished a close second at 16.58m (54'4.75").

On the track side, Jennifer Salvatore placed third in the women's 5000m at 19:21.58 while fellow Leopard Stephanie McCartney finished fifth after crossing at 19:48.99. In the women's 3000m, Brigid McGill placed sixth out of 30 runners and led the Leopards with her time of 10:56.30.

The Leopards will return to action when they take part in the two-day New Balance Invitational in New York from Feb. 3-4.
