PISCATAWAY, N.J. - The Lafayette track & field team capped off the weekend at the Rutgers Invitational with over 20 top-five finishes, including a pair of first-place showings.
Senior Laura Oh highlighted the throwers with a pair of top-five throws in the shot put and the weight throw. She earned fifth place in the shot put (11.28m) and fourth in the weight throw (13.87m). In the men's shot put, junior David McGriff placed fourth (13.82m) while senior Patrick Corcoran (13.69m) earned fifth.
The women dominated the pole vault, grabbing the top three jumps. Senior Mara Blanchard had the top jump at 3.19m, while freshman Sarah Shoop (2.74) and senior Maurin O'Connor (2.49) followed. In the men's pole vault, it was junior Michael Thorne finishing third out of nine jumpers at 4.25m.
To round out the jumpers, junior Steve Young had a pair of fifth-place showings in the long jump and triple jump. In the long jump he leaped 6.40m and followed that up with a 13.00m distance in the triple jump.
The Leopards' runners had a stellar showing over the weekend, bringing in 13 top-five finishes for Lafayette. In the men's 60m hurdles, freshman Tyler Hubeny (9.03) and junior Sam Cutrone (9.17) placed fourth and fifth, respectively.
When it came time for the women's 400m dash, senior Drew Davis grabbed a top-five finish, placing second with a time of 57.15. In the women's 800m, senior Kelly Reager also placed second at 2:19.34.
Junior Tyler Pressl gave Lafayette its second first-place finish of the day after nabbing first in the 800m at 1:59.07. Freshman Calvin Schneck placed fifth in the same event at 2:01.34.
In the men's 200m dash, freshman Daniel Hogan finished fifth of 22 runners with a time of 23.13.
The Lafayette women dominated the 3000m run with sophomore Emily Moore (10:25.12) and junior Katie Millar (10:55.17) taking first and second, respectively. Sophomore Brook Blackshaw rounded out the top-five with a fifth-place showing with her time of 11:10.08.
In the men's 4x400m relay, the group of Thomas Strand, Kia Shahideh, Justin Johnson and Andrew Kristofick placed fifth at 3:32.82.
The women followed that up with a second-place showing in the 4x800m relay with the group of Alexa Kwapinski, Reager, Crosby Spiess and Amy Hewlett (9:55.94). In the same event, but on the men's side, the Leopards nabbed third place behind Tyler Pressel, Scheck, Charlie Hoyt and Elias Saric's time of 8:30.15.
The Leopards will be back in action on Friday, Jan. 13 at the Spartan Invite in Staten Island, N.Y. before returning the following day for the Great Dane Classic.
