EASTON, Pa. -- Sophomore defender Lisa van der Geest scored the only goal of a low-scoring affair with Bucknell as Lafayette topped its conference rival 1-0 on Friday night at Rappolt Field.
Van der Geest scored off a direct shot on a penalty corner, rocketing her effort into the back of the cage in the 45th minute. The goal held up and allowed Lafayette to even its conference record at 2-2 and remain in the hunt for a Patriot League Tournament berth. Rosie Shanks and Ellen Colbourne assisted on the game-winning goal which van der Geest's first tally of the season and fourth of her career.
Statistically, Lafayette held an advantage in nearly every category in the box score, out-shooting the Bison 16-3, including a 10-0 shot differential in the second half. The Leopards also managed a 6-1 advantage in penalty corners.
Defensively, Leopard keeper Sarah Park was seldom tested, stopping the Bison's only two shots on goal in the game during the first half. Bucknell (6-8, 2-2) goalie Emily Finn made eight saves in 70 minutes.
The Leopards (6-7, 2-2) remain at home, hosting Richmond on Sunday at 12:05 p.m. The game against the Atlantic 10 foe will be streamed on GoLeopards.com.
