ALLENTOWN, Pa. - The Lafayette track & field team captured eight top-five finishes at the Muhlenberg Invitational on Saturday afternoon.
The women got things started on the track and Mara Blanchard led off the afternoon with a second-place showing in the 200m at 27.01. In the 400m, Kelly Reager (59.12) and Amy Hewlett (1:03.19) finished second and eighth, respectively.
Lafayette grabbed another top-three finish once Alexa Kwapinski finished third in the 800m at 2:19.57. When it came time for the distance runners to take to the track, Brigid McGill shined for the Leopards with a sixth-place showing after crossing at 18:36.07, a new personal best. In the 400m hurdles, Katie Mozzochi placed fourth at 1:08.63. Tracy Kurdziel led the women in the field events after setting a new PR and finishing eighth in the discus with a distance of 118' 2".
The afternoon for the men was highlighted by Michael Thorne's first-place showing in the pole vault. The junior was the lone jumper to clear the bar at 15' 0". Also in the jumps, Brendan Doyle finished in second in the high jump at 6' 0".
On the track, the men's 4x400m relay team consisting of Jake Hubertus, Dan Hogan, Steven Young and Justin Johnson, placed second at 43.75. Hogan would also finish seventh in the 200m after crossing at 23.14.
David Sadvary (10:10.82) highlighted the men's distance runners after finishing in fifth in the 3000m steeplechase, while Peter Bokma placed eighth in the 100m hurdles at 18.20.
The Leopards will return to action next weekend when they host Lehigh in a dual meet set to begin at 11:30 a.m. at Metzgar.
