GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Lafayette baseball team closed out its three-game set with UNC Greensboro on Saturday afternoon, falling in both games of the doubleheader. The Leopards found themselves behind early in both contests and were unable to overcome the early deficits.

Game 1

The Spartans struck early and often in game one, taking a 10-0 lead after two innings of play. The Maroon and White threatened with a ninth inning rally, but UNCG held off the Leopards to win earn a 14-5 win. Kenny Campbell (1-1) took the loss on the mound for the Maroon and White while Bryce Hensley (2-1) was credited for the win for the Spartans.

Lafayette was able to get on the board in the top of the third inning, cutting UNCG's lead to 10-2.Mark Glover got the rally started with a two-out single to center field and was moved to second after John Marti legged-out an infield single. Spencer Rouse loaded the bases for Patrick Nelson after getting hit by a pitch. Nelson did his job at the plate, lacing a single up the middle that scored Glover and Marti.

The Leopards momentum was short-lived however as the Spartans responded with two runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning and added a run in the fourth to make it 13-2. Gabe Levine entered the game on the mound and slowed UNCG's bats, giving up two hits across three innings of work, which included a 1-2-3 seventh inning.

Lafayette pushed three more runs across the plate in the ninth inning but it was too little too late for the Leopards. Bill Russo pinch hit for Steven Cohen and worked a walk to lead-off the inning. Glover dug in at the plate and swatted a double into right field to give the Maroon and White two runners in scoring position. Marti followed Glover with another double, making it 13-4. Marti came around to score on a wild pitch, but the Leopards couldn't keep the inning alive as the Spartans earned the win.

Game 2

Lafayette slipped behind the Spartans early in the second game of the doubleheader and couldn't complete the comeback, falling by a final score of 5-2. John Cain (0-3) got the start on the mound and kept UNCG at bay, striking out four batters across four innings of work while giving up two earned runs.

The Spartans got on the board in the first inning, taking advantage of defensive miscue by the Leopards. UNCG added two more in the bottom of the third but the Leopards were able to break through in the top of the fourth.

Marti pushed his hitting-streak to six straight games with a lead-off with a single before being brought by a double down the left field line from Rouse. Trey Durrah added an RBI with a single to right to cut the Spartans lead to 3-2. Quentin Bubb worked a walk to give the Leopards two baserunners with one out, but they couldn't capitalize as a pitching change allowed UNCG to get out of the inning.

The game remained quiet from there with neither side finding much success at the plate. UNCG added runs in the seventh and eighth to make it a three-run game heading into the ninth inning. The Leopards didn't have any late-inning magic however, as the Spartans held on for a 5-2 victory.
