ANNAPOLIS, Pa. - The Leopards battled Navy into extra innings on Sunday afternoon but could not upend the Mids on the road, falling by a final score of 10-9 in 11 innings.
The loss drops the Maroon and White to 2-4 in the Patriot League with an 11-16 mark overall. Navy improves 22-8 overall with a 7-4 record in league play. David Giusti (3-1) took the loss on the mound for the Leopards while Trey Seabrooke (1-0) was credited with the win for Navy. Luke Robinson led the way for the Maroon and White at the plate, hitting for the cycle, finishing 4-for-6 with four RBI and three runs.
After slipping behind the Mids 3-1 in the bottom of the first inning, the Leopards were able to take a 6-5 in the top of the top of the sixth inning. Senior AJ Kloehn worked a walk to lead off the frame and was moved to second after Mark Glover was hit by a pitch. With two runners on, Robinson bashed his first home run of the season over the right field wall to put the Maroon and White in the lead.
Lafayette's lead didn't last long as Navy plated three runs in the bottom of the seventh to put the Leopards down 8-6. The back-and-forth continued in the eighth inning as the Leopards put up three runs in the top of the frame.
Colin Hartey worked a pinch hit walk to start the inning and a double from Robinson brought the freshman home. Robinson moved to third on an error from Navy's right fielder and was brought home by a sacrifice fly from John Marti. A wild pitch brought Spencer Rouse home to round out the Leopards' scoring.
Navy was able to tie the game at 9-9 in the bottom half of the eighth inning with a homerun from Evan Lowery. The Maroon and White couldn't push any runs across in the rest of the way as the Mids used a walk-off single to steal a 10-9 victory.
The Leopards are back in action this Tuesday when they take part second round of the Liberty Bell Classic.
