LEWSIBURG, Pa. – Bucknell (10-20, 7-7 PL) was able to take advantage of Lafayette's (12-19, 2-7 PL) miscues on Sunday afternoon, plating five unearned runs to down the Leopards in Patriot League action.
John Cain (0-4) got the start on the mound for the Maroon and White and threw for five innings, striking out five Bison along the way, ultimately earning the loss. Jack Grabek (2-3) toed the rubber for Bucknell and held the Leopards to four hits across six innings of work. The Maroon and White were able to get baserunners throughout the afternoon, but couldn't get hits when they needed, stranding 11 runners on base, compared to nine by the Bison.
Bucknell struck first in the second inning, going up 1-0 on a sharp grounder to Lafayette's shortstop. The Maroon and White had a chance to tie it in the fourth inning after Richard Villa was plunked to start the frame. Quentin Bubb and Mark Glover worked walks to give the Leopards a bases loaded opportunity, but with two outs, the Maroon and White didn't find the hit they needed to knot the score.
Two errors from the Leopards allowed the Bison to plate four runs in the sixth inning to put Lafayette down 5-0. The Leopards were able to manufacture a run in the seventh as Luke Robinson belted a leadoff double into center field. John Marti moved Robinson to third and Spencer Rouse got the job done with a grounder to second base to make it 5-1.
Lafayette didn't find any more offense the rest of the way as the Bison earned the victory.
The Leopards are back at Kamine Field this Tuesday when they host rival Lehigh in a makeup game. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
