PHILADELPHIA - The Lafayette Fencing squad opened the 2019-20 season by participating in the Temple Open over the the weekend at the Owls'Â Liacouras Center.
Sophomore
Carolyn Feigeles finished a career-best sixth place in the women's epee on Saturday. The Westampton, N.J. native won all nine of her bouts in pool play and then her first two in tableau before falling to eventual runner-up Paulene Conscience of Penn State. Also in women's sabre, Sophomore
Bella Moger finished 29th (5-5 record in pool play) and junior
Emily Cook was 42nd.
Junior Julianna Sikorski was the Leopards top finisher in women's epee in 35th with a 5-3 record in pool play while sophomore
Lily Manetta and senior
Emily Benson placed T-55 and T-70, respectively.
In men's action on Sunday, junior
Bora Mutis delivered a strong performance with a 30th place in men's foil and was 5-3 in pool action followed closely by sophomore
Yiwen Cui in 41st, 4-4. Senior
Patrick Rekieta was the top Lafayette fencer in the men's sabre in 32nd with a 5-5 record in pool competition and a opening round win in tableau. Sophomore Sean Fitzgibbon was 46th in men's epee for the Leopards.
Also competing on Sunday for Lafayette were junior
Jonathan Rosenblum (69th) and freshman
Grahame Ung (72nd) in men's epee and freshman
Oliver Copeland (45th), freshman
Matthew Decker (50th), senior
Ian Miller (56th) and sophomore
William Mcalpine (78th) in men's sabre.
