HACKENSACK, N.J. -- The Lafayette women's fencing squad won four of seven team matches and 104 individual bouts as they wrapped up a successful Saturday in the FDU Invitational at the Knight's Rothman Center.
The Leopards knocked off Hunter (22-5), CCNY (23-4), LIU (14-13) and host Fairleigh Dickinson (15-10) and also competed against Wagner, Drew and Stevens. The team was lead by a strong 19-2 performance in foil by newcomer
Danielle Long. The freshman from Chester, N.J. was competing on the collegiate level for the first time since joining the squad in January.
The trio at Sabre -
Carolyn Feigeles,
Bella Moger and
Emily Cook - accounted for nearly half of the individual victories, led by Feigeles with 18 and followed closely by Moger with 17 and Cook with 14.
Juliana Sikorski also figured in with double digits wins with 11 in Epee and
Victoria Zay added 10 in Foil. The effort was rounded out by
Lily Manetta with 9 and
Emily Benson with 6, both competing in Epee.
Both the men and women will be in action on Sunday at the JHU Invitational hosted by Johns Hopkins at the Goldfarb Gymnasium in Baltimore, Md.Â
