DURHAM, N.C. - All four members of the Lafayette College Fencing squad who competed in the NCAA Mid-Atlantic/South Regional won at least one match on Saturday at the Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center hosted by Duke University.
Sophomore
Carolyn Feigeles led the way winning six head-to-head matches in Women's Sabre to reach the semifinal round before bowing out. The Westampton, N.J. native won three in pool play and gave overall undefeated Pool #4 winner Alicja Tomaszewski of JohnHopkins her toughest match in a narrow 5-4 setback. Feigeles' victories in the opening round came against Duke's Jessica Whang (5-2), North Carolina's Abby Parker (5-1) and Karen Martin of Wagner (5-1).
Feigeles also won twice in the quarterfinals, including a 5-4 win over Temple's Malia Hee and a 5-1 victory over Penn's Sara Papp, and added a 5-3 win over Clara Somfelean of North Carolina in the semifinals. Hee would go on to place second overall in Women's Sabre.
The other three Leopards in the competition earned one victory in pool play. Junior
Bora Mutis defeated Drew Laun-Wilson, of Drew, 5-4 in Men's Foil. He also had a pair of near misses in 5-4 losses against opponents from Penn and Princeton.
Sophomore
Yiwen Cui defeated Penn's Jerry Wu 5-4 and also took Carter Langen of Haverford to the wire in a 5-4 loss. Competing in Women's Sabre, sophomore
Bella Moger had a 5-2 win against Drew's Kayla Ogden in the opening round.
