LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Lafayette track and field team kicked off its indoor track and field season this weekend at the Bison Opener.
On the women's side,
Cassandra Wilk opened the season strong, finishing second overall in the 3,000 meter run in a final time of 10:30.87. Another second place came from
Jill Warabak in the 60 meter hurdles. After finishing second in the preliminaries in a time of 9.02, she came back to finish second in the finals with a time of 9.07.
Sophia Dongaris also qualified for the finals, finishing eighth in 9.78.
Julia Greeley had a great start to her season, finishing tied for third overall in the pole vault with a top mark of 10' 11
3/4"Â in her first collegiate meet.
The 800 meter run provided some strong finishes, as the Leopards finished fifth, sixth and eighth in the race.
Alex Avery lead the way (5th, 2:25.84), with
Alexandra Borik (6th, 2:27.58), and
Sara Tippin (8th, 2:29.61) behind her.
The Leopards finished seventh and eighth in 500 meter run. Leading the way for Lafayette was
Kirsten McKenna (7th, 1:23.83) and
Lily Dineen (8th, 1:23.91).
In the jumping department,
Melina Panagakos had a strong showing, finishing tied for sixth in the high jump with a top mark of 5' 1".
Grace O'Mara also had a big debut for Lafayette, finishing fifth overall in the weight throw with a top mark of 50' 1
1/4". She came back later in the meet to also finish sixth in the shot put with a top mark of 40' 5". Both of these marks are indoor personal bests for O'Mara.
On the men's side, the top finishes came from two freshmen. In the 400 meter dash,
Ryan Moore finished fifth in 53.18.
In the pole vault,
Jack Lynett got off to a strong start as well, finishing tied for fifth with a top mark of 13' 3
1/2".Â
Closing out the action in the weight throw were two, top-10 finishes by
Devin Rosmarin (7th, 47' 1
1/2") and
Andrew Swiniarski (9th, 44' 6
1/4").
The Leopards return to action on Saturday, Jan. 8 at the West Point Open.Â
