Lafayette Athletics to Allow Limited Spectators at Outdoor Venues

Restricted number of student-athlete guests, on-campus students, faculty and staff to be permitted at athletic events this spring starting March 13

EASTON, Pa. -- Effective with events scheduled for March 13, Lafayette Athletics will permit two guests per Leopard student-athlete (to accommodate parents or family members), families of coaches and a limited number of Lafayette faculty, staff and students learning from campus to attend events at Lafayette outdoor venues this spring when the College is at operational level 1.

Spectators cannot be accommodated this weekend because of the recent spike of positive COVID-19 cases. Changes to the College's operational level that increase restrictions will eliminate the opportunity to accommodate outside spectators at events.

"We are happy to provide an opportunity for loved ones, though limited, to be present to support their student-athletes," said Lafayette Director of Athletics Sherryta Freeman. "Our student-athletes have remained incredibly dedicated through a very challenging time and we know they are appreciative of seeing familiar faces."

It is expected that all fans will adhere to the spectator guidelines. If that doesn't occur, outside guests will be restricted from future contests or all spectator access will be revoked.

All invited spectators, who are receiving instructions via email, must register for events and adhere to strict guidelines, including wearing a mask and proper physical distancing at all times. Tailgating and gatherings prior to or following events will not be permitted. Spectators associated with visiting teams will not be provided access to events. Per Patriot League policies, spectators are not permitted to attend events held at indoor facilities.

The Lafayette Sports Network will broadcast the majority of home events this spring. All broadcasts will be streamed live on ESPN+ and several will air on RCN-TV in the Lehigh Valley, Philadelphia, Boston, Washington, D.C. and Chicago.

Lafayette Athletics, in consultation with College administration and the Patriot League, will continue to monitor any changes to public health guidelines and adjust accordingly.
