HELLERTOWN, Pa. — The Lafayette men's golf team placed fifth at the 18th annual ABARTA Coca-Cola Collegiate Invitational on Monday at The Steel Club (formerly Silver Creek Country Club).
The Leopards' Maroon team finished in the top five at their annual two-day tournament for the second straight tournament by posting a 16-over-par 592. They also finished as the runner-up in the 2019 edition of the event.
Senior
Cole Berger led the way for the Maroon team, as he finished tied for 10th with a 2-over 146. The Malvern, Pa. native shot a 1-under 71 on Sunday and carded a 3-over 75 on Monday.
Sophomore
Martin Vanhaelst and junior
Kazuki Osawa followed Berger by tying for 15th after both players totaled a 4-over 148 in the event. Vanhaelst shot the best final round on the team, firing a 1-under 71 to go with his 5-over 77 from Sunday. As for Osawa, he shot an even-par 72 Monday to add to his 4-over 76 from Sunday.
Junior
Ryan Tall rounded out the Maroon team's scoring, shooting a 6-over 150 (76-74). Senior
Brendan Cronin also played with the Maroon team and shot a 9-over 153 (77-76), but his score did not factor into the team total.
The Leopards also saw
Alec Cwienkala,
Creighton Hendrix,
Augie Beers,
T.J. Repczynski, and
Drew Steiner compete in the tournament for the White team, which finished in 13th place.
Cwienkala led the team with a 13-over 157 (79-78) to finish in a tie for 58th, while Hendrix followed with a 15-over 159 (80-79) to end up in a tie for 64th. Beers had a 19-over 163 (84-79), Repczynski had a 23-over 167 (83-84), and Steiner had a 24-over 168 (89-79) to finish 70th, 73rd, and 74th, respectively.
The Leopards will play in the President's Cup on Thursday against rival Lehigh at Hamilton Farm Golf Club in Gladstone, N.J.
