STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - The Lafayette track and field team continued their indoor season today at the Spartan Invite.
On the men's side, the first win of the day came in the 3,000 meter run with
Tim Larsen taking home first place in a final time of 8:53.00. In the 26-runner field, Larsen won the race by over three seconds.
Sean Hamilton finished ninth in the race in a final time of 9:08.04. The finish from Larsen is a new personal best in the event.
Another win for the men came in mile run as
Bobby Oehrlein took home first place in a time of 4:16.10 in the 25-runner field. Finishing right behind him in third place was
Austin Barry in a time of 4:18.00. The finishes from Oehrlein and Barry are both new personal bests in the event.
The next win came in the 1,000 meter run, as the Leopards took first and second place. Winning the race in a time of 2:32.66 was
A.J. Sanford. Less than two seconds behind Sanford in second was
Ryan Murphy in a time of 2:34.52.
Oscar Jopp also had a strong performance, as he finished third overall in the 60 meter hurdles in a final time of 8.69 seconds.
Closing out the action for the men was the 4x400 meter relay team finishing fifth overall in a time of 3:38.37. Leading the way was
Ryan Murphy,
A.J. Sanford,
C.J. Romine, and
Emil Arangala.
On the women's side, the first win of the day came in the one mile run as
Autumn Sands took home first in the 14-runner field in a time of 5:07.28. Finishing fourth in the race was
Becky Hartman in a time of 5:21.30. The time from Sands is a new personal best in the event.
Julia Greeley had a strong performance in the pole vault, finishing second overall with a top mark of 10' 6".
The 3,000 meter run was another successful event, as the Leopards took fifth and seventh in the race. Leading the way was
Maura Timoney (5
th, 10:52.92) and
Emma Lorey (7
th, 11:00.82).
Alexandra Borik and
Sara Tippin also got in on the action, finishing eighth and ninth in the 800 meter run with final times of 2:28.76 and 2:30.19 respectively.
In the jumping department,
Eliana Liebman finished eighth in the 24-person field with a top mark of 4.98 meters.
Closing the action out for the women in the throwing department was
Solape Fakorede, finishing seventh in the weight throw with a mark of 45' 9
3/4".
