GLADSTONE, N.J. - The Lafayette golf team competed in the annual Presidents' Cup on Tuesday at Hamilton Farm Golf Club. The Leopards lost a hard-fought match to Lehigh by a score of 12.5-7.5 in the match-play event.
During the better-ball portion of the match, senior Martin Vanhaelst and sophomore Sean Saw took home a 3 and 2 win, competing against Daniel Song and Edmund Broderick. Saw went on to pick up another win in the singles format with a 4 and 3 victory over Song.
Sophomore Michael Walsh and freshman Harry Dessel secured a win in the better ball portion, defeating Sam Barton and David Hurly by a score of 1 up. During singles, Walsh competed against Barton again and the two halved their match. Lehigh finished with a 3-2 lead at the conclusion of the better ball portion.
In the alternate-shot competition, junior Carter Ablon and freshman Boyoung Chang gave the Leopards points with a 2 and 1 win over Joey Dotta and Aiden LeBlanc. Sophomore Raymond Dennehy and senior Augie Beers managed a win, going 2 up over Jahan Bains and Aiden Oehrle. Lehigh took another team victory during the alternate shot segment, 3-2, extending its lead to 6-4 heading into singles play.
Dennehy played well throughout the day, collecting a win in singles over Edmund Broderick 2 and 1. Classmate Michael Bell knocked off Bains with a dominant 6 and 5 win.
The Leopards will continue their fall season on Friday and Saturday at Saucon Valley Country Club, competing in the Lehigh Invitational.
