Track Continues Season at Covert Classic

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Lafayette track and field team continued its season on Saturday at Covert Classic.

On the men's side, Sean Hamilton kicked off the action strong, winning the 3,000 meter steeplechase in a time of 9:49.95, five seconds faster than the second-place finisher. Another quality performance came from Bobby Oehrlein in the 1,500 meter run where he finishing second out of 28 runners in a time of 3:59.15. 

Charlie Hohl also got in on the action, finishing eighth in the 400 meter run in a time of 52.97. He came back later to finish 10th in the 200 meters (23.47). In the 5,000 meter run, Jack Bell finished 12th (16:09.32). C.J. Romine finished 15th in the 800 meter run in a time of 1:58.32 in a very competitive field.

In the throwing department, Andrew Swiniarski kicked off the action, placed seventh in the hammer throw (159' 6") ahead of teammate Devin Rosmarin (153' 1"). Harrison Greenhill also continued his great outdoor season, placing third in the shot put (53' 81/4")

In the discus, Lafayette had three top-10 finishes led by Fischer Biggs (6th, 145' 2"). Andrew Bowsher (7th, 141' 6") and Andrew Swiniarski (9th, 137' 11") followed closely behind.

In the pole vault, Jack Lynett continued his strong season, finishing third with a distance of 14' 31/4". In the long jump, Oscar Jopp finished sixth with a mark of 20' 13/4". In the triple jump, Quinn Curtin finished sixth overall with a top leap of 42' 6". Isaiah Moore placed sixth in the high jump (6' 03/4").

On the women's side, Autumn Sands finishing second in the 1,500 meter run in a time of 4:43.73, joined in the top 10 by Alex Avery who was 10th in a time of 4:55.40.

In the 100 meter hurdles, Jill Warabak also produced a second-place finish, crossing the finish line in a time of 14.81 seconds. In the 400 meter run, Lily Dineen finished ninth in a time of 1:02.03.

In the javelin, Caity McTernan finished third with a throw of 118' 6". Rylee Bordwick was ninth with a toss of 97' 9". In the hammer throw, Erin O'Leary finished seventh with a toss of 153' 8". In the shot put, Grace O'Mara finished eighth with a throw of 37' 91/2". In the discus, the Leopards finished with two top-10 finishes: Solape Fakorede  in sixth (129' 8") and Grace O'Mara in seventh (129' 1").

Julia Greeley continued her strong season in the pole vault, placing third with a vault of 11' 13/4". In the long jump, Claire Fedor used a jump of 17' 2" to capture sixth place.

The Leopards return to action at the Patriot League Outdoor Championships, on May 6.
