EASTON, Pa. - The Lafayette College baseball program and new head coach AJ Miller have announced the hiring of Scott Boches and Ryan Luke as assistant coaches.
Â
Boches will take on the role of the pitching coach for the Leopards. The Feasterville, Pa. native comes to Lafayette directly from the Seattle Mariners organization. He spent six seasons in professional baseball, climbing his way up from rookie ball to Triple-A.Â
Â
The right-handed pitcher had a successful career at Marist. He recorded 137 strikeouts in his career, while playing only three seasons due to injury. Boches accumulated a 4.31 career ERA, pitching a total of five complete games in his career.
Â
"Scott's resume and playing experience speaks for itself when it comes to pitch development and pitch design," Miller said. "Scott is the exact piece this staff needed when it comes to managing a pitching staff. As someone who played at the Division I level and pitched in the Seattle Mariners organization the last six years, Scott has a full understanding of what it takes from a mental, physical and development side of pitching in order to have success on the mound. Scott's organization, detail and passion for pitching are what stood out when I first met him and made it an easy decision to hire him as our next pitching coach. We are very excited to welcome him to Lafayette."
Â
Luke has been named the hitting coach/recruiting coordinator for the Leopards. He comes from Franklin and Marshall College where he was the associate head coach and recruiting coordinator. The Stewartsville, N.J. native was a member of the coaching staff of the 2019, 2021 and 2022 Centennial Conference Coach of the Year Ryan Horning. He coached the 2018 and 2021 Centennial Conference Players of the Year and the 2019 and 2021 Pitchers of the Year.Â
Â
His baseball career at Moravian University (formerly College) was nothing short of decorated. Luke was a three-year captain of the team and holds several top 10 marks in the Moravian record books.
Â
College Hill is familiar to Luke, as he was the director of baseball operations for the Leopards in 2016.Â
Â
"We as a program are extremely excited to bring on Ryan as our hitting coach and recruiting coordinator. Ryan has a proven track record when it comes to offensive development," Miller said. "Coming from a school like F&M, he has a clear understanding of what type of student-athlete we need here at Lafayette in order to be successful both on the field and in the classroom. He is known as a tireless and passionate recruiter, I am excited to get to work with Ryan and to welcome him back to Lafayette."
